Our Arrangement – Mohammad Kutubuddin

I have adorned the surroundings with petals of roses,
Scattered the fragrant ‘oud of Hainan’ in the air.
Beneath the wood-apple tree I have placed a few stools, And in the delight of noon,
I have set aside the shy adornment of dusk, waiting for you.
Then, you and I—
We shall open the basket of our golden stories
And bind together what time has left undone.
In my clenched hands I have kept
Soft affection and the handle of harmony.
Tearing through the net of division,
We shall unite in our intimate conversation.
Let the evenings descend—
Let the solitude of night open its veil
And touch the manifesto of our dawn.
Today and tomorrow, by our arrangement,
Will bring forth a new dawn—
Where no human shall feed
On the blood of another.
