THE DAWN AFTER DARKNESS By Dr. Nancy Denniss-SYDNEY
I WOULD LIKE TO DEDICATE THIS POEM
TO THE QUIET PEACE MAKERS,
THE HEALERS OF HIDDEN SCARS AND EVERY
CHILD WHO DESERVES TO LOOK UP AT THE SKY
FILLED ONLY WITH LIGHTS.
MAY OUR COLLECTIVE MEMORY HONOR WHAT WAS LOST AND MAY OUR SHARED COURAGE FORGE A FUTURE WHERE BORDERS AND BRIDGES BY GRACE AND STEEL IS FOREVER TURNED TO STONE.

The midnight of our sorrow starts to fade
Above the trenches where the broken slept
We count the heavy toll that hatred made
And honor every tear the world has wept.
The silent fields of stone bear witness now
To hallow victories brought with breath and bone
We bend our knees and make a solemn vow:
No child shall face the bitter dark alone.
The iron weapons melt to mend the plow
The scarred and bleeding earth begins to heal
A quiet hope rewrites the furrowed brow
As nations learn to trust the peace they feel.
We build our future not on walls of stone
But on the fragile grace of open hands
The highest king sits on a humble throne
When mercy flows across the divide lands.
The dawn is rising, patient, soft and clear
To wash away the stains of old dispare
Though heavy scares remain from years of fear
A song of global healing fills the air.
