The Long-Awaited Cloak By Mohammad Kutubuddin

You set me adrift upon the blade of waves—
and cast upon the breast of the sea
the gift of indulgence.
You let go of the rope of the little boat
and call me toward
an uncertain sanctuary of safety.
With my eyes fixed upon
the terrible eyes of the rushing waters,
I swim on, tireless—
driven by the longing
to touch the inevitable rope
that might lead me to you.
You smile and create distance—
again and again,
drawing away the sail of possibility,
carrying it into the dark orbit
of the unseen and the half-shadowed.
In this raging sea,
some remain utterly alone—
reckless swimmers,
who, with nothing but the strength of their arms,
continue their futile struggle,
yearning to become eternal guests
within your house of insatiable desire.
Now, please lift up
your resplendent abode;
release me from the burden of pain.
Clothe me at last
in that long-awaited cloak.
