Eirene, Bring Peace to the Whole World/Dr. Lee Hye-Seon

Shells rain down, and a storm of blood sweeps across the land.
Drones hunt down every moving dot, Unleashing a rain of deadly fire.
Red blood spills across the fields of white snow, blood upon blood…
To the eyes of guns and missiles, A human life is merely
A dot.
Cities have crumbled, every house has been reduced to ashes.
Beloved sons and daughters, mothers and fathers—all are dead.
How much more blood must flow to become rivers and oceans
Before this slaughter comes to an end?
I turn away, pretending not to see, pretending not to know.
I turn away, telling myself It is a distant tragedy, theirs and theirs alone.
I laugh and share a meal with you, then fall asleep in the warmth of my bed.
From far away, a tiny dot or two, a faint cry of anguish.
The cries grow louder and louder, drawing closer and closer to me.
Ares, god of destruction and slaughter, fall to your knees in shame!
Break your spear and fall asleep—Forever.
Eirene, goddess of peace, unfold your flowing robes,
With the loving warmth of your heart,
Let peace dwell throughout the world.
Heal the deaths and wounds left by war,
And ease all poverty and suffering.
Without peace, there can be no life,
No freedom, no joy, no love.
Let the sun shine once more upon the land of death,
Let new shoots grow and children run and play,
Fill the world with abundance and celebration, with love and joy,
Let justice and harmony take root everywhere,
O Peace! O Mother!
