We Are Soul, Not Cortisol-Dr Haroon Rashid

We are soul,
not the rush of panic
that storms the bloodstream,
not the tightening of a heart
that has forgotten how to trust.
We are the quiet after chaos,
the warmth after worry,
the breath that returns
when life has taken too much.
But somewhere along the way,
the world taught us
to mistrust tenderness,
to treat love like a threat,
to call devotion pressure,
to fear the very hands
that were born to heal us.
And so lovers everywhere
hesitate at the edge of light,
flinching at a gentleness
they have never known before,
mistaking peace for danger,
misreading comfort as cost.
We label each other cortisol
as if presence were stress
instead of sanctuary,
as if closeness were something
the heart must defend itself from.
But the truth is softer than fear.
We come to each other
not to raise the pulse
but to steady it,
not to drown the silence
but to soften it,
not to demand anything
but to understand everything.
We are soul,
the place where storms kneel,
where wounds unclench,
where the past stops shouting
and finally listens.
We are the quiet miracle
of two spirits recognizing
their own reflection
in another heartbeat.
We are not the tension.
We are the release.
Not the alarm.
The arrival.
Not the fear.
The faith.
And when the world misreads us,
calls our depth a risk,
calls our honesty a flaw,
calls our love too much,
let it.
For we know what we are.
We are soul, not cortisol.
We are the peace lovers discover
when they stop running
and start returning
again and again
to each other.
