Flex and Flexible / Dr Haroon Rashid

IMG 8577 2

Some people flex
what they have.

Some flex
what they survived.

Some flex
their clothes,
their car,
their body,
their money,
their title,
their happiness.

Some flex
because they are proud.

Some flex
because they are afraid
of being unseen.

And some people
have nothing to prove.

They simply live.

Life, after all,
is rarely impressed
by how rigidly
we hold ourselves.

It changes the weather.

Changes plans.

Changes people.

Changes relationships.

Changes bodies.

Changes cities,
dreams,
beliefs,
and sometimes
the person
we thought
we would become.

So perhaps
the greater strength
is not always
in the flex.

Perhaps it is
in being flexible.

To bend
without losing yourself.

To change your mind
without losing your values.

To walk away
without becoming bitter.

To begin again
without pretending
the ending did not hurt.

To say,
I was wrong.

To say,
I have changed.

To say,
this no longer fits me.

To say,
I do not know
what comes next,
but I will still move.

There is a kind of strength
that looks like certainty.

And there is another kind
that looks like adaptation.

A tree survives the wind
not because
it never moves,

but because
it knows how to move
without surrendering
its roots.

Perhaps we are like that too.

We need roots.

But we also need room.

Room to grow.

Room to soften.

Room to become.

Room to leave behind
versions of ourselves
that once kept us alive
but no longer let us live.

Flex,
if you want.

Celebrate yourself.

Wear what you love.

Enjoy what you earned.

Stand tall.

Take the picture.

Laugh loudly.

Let life see
that you were here.

But remain flexible enough
to know
that none of it
is permanent.

Not youth.

Not beauty.

Not success.

Not failure.

Not applause.

Not pain.

Not even
the life
we have carefully planned.

Maybe maturity
is understanding
that strength
does not always mean
holding tighter.

Sometimes
it means
opening the hand.

Sometimes
it means
changing direction.

Sometimes
it means
resting.

Sometimes
it means
starting over
with no audience
to applaud you.

The world often teaches us
how to flex.

Life teaches us
how to be flexible.

And somewhere
between the two,

between confidence
and humility,

between standing firm
and knowing when to bend,

between showing the world
who we are
and quietly discovering
who we are becoming,

there is a way of living
that feels lighter.

Not perfect.

Not permanent.

Just human.

And perhaps
that is enough.

To stand
when we can.

To bend
when we must.

To grow
when life asks us to.

And to never mistake
flexibility
for weakness,

because sometimes
the strongest thing
a person can do

is change
without losing
their heart.
