A Tribute to Anne Carson on the Occasion of Her 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature/By Prof. Sayyar Al-Jamil

I warmly congratulate the distinguished Canadian poet, essayist, translator, and classicist Anne Carson on being awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature. I have followed her writings for twenty-five years, ever since I settled in Canada, and have come to appreciate the remarkable intellectual depth, literary originality, and creative independence that distinguish her work. Her ability to bring classical traditions into a vital dialogue with contemporary thought, while transcending conventional boundaries between poetry, prose, philosophy, and translation, has long impressed me. Her Nobel Prize comes as no surprise to me; rather, it represents a well-deserved recognition of a singular literary achievement.

Anne Carson’s distinction lies not merely in the originality of her literary forms, but also in her courage to explore the complexities of human experience through an independent and intellectually adventurous vision. Her work reminds us that literature remains a living space for questioning inherited certainties, reinterpreting cultural traditions, and expanding the horizons of human understanding. I regard this Nobel Prize as a fitting tribute to a remarkable writer whose contribution to contemporary literature extends beyond national and linguistic boundaries. I extend to Anne Carson my sincere congratulations and profound respect on this distinguished and richly deserved honour.

أتقدّم بأحرّ التهاني إلى الشاعرة والكاتبة والمترجمة والباحثة الكلاسيكية الكندية المتميزة آن كارسون، بمناسبة فوزها بجائزة نوبل للآداب لعام 2026. لقد تابعتُ كتاباتها على مدى خمسة وعشرين عامًا، منذ استقرار مقامي في كندا، وتكوّن لديّ تقدير عميق لما تتسم به أعمالها من عمق فكري استثنائي، وأصالة أدبية، واستقلال إبداعي. وقد أثارت إعجابي، منذ زمن طويل، قدرتها على إقامة حوار حيّ بين التراث الكلاسيكي والفكر المعاصر، وتجاوز الحدود التقليدية الفاصلة بين الشعر والنثر والفلسفة والترجمة. ومن هذا المنطلق، لم يكن فوزها بجائزة نوبل مفاجأة لي، بقدر ما كان اعترافًا مستحقًا بإنجاز أدبي متفرّد.

إن ما يميّز آن كارسون لا يقتصر على أصالة أشكالها الأدبية، بل يتجلى أيضًا في شجاعتها في استكشاف تعقيدات التجربة الإنسانية من خلال رؤية مستقلة ومغامرة فكريًا. وتذكّرنا أعمالها بأن الأدب يظل فضاءً حيًا لمساءلة المسلّمات الموروثة، وإعادة تأويل التقاليد الثقافية، وتوسيع آفاق الفهم الإنساني. وأرى في هذا التكريم احتفاءً مستحقًا بكاتبة استثنائية تجاوز أثرها في الأدب المعاصر الحدود الوطنية واللغوية. وإذ أعبّر عن تقديري العميق لمسيرتها، أتقدّم إلى آن كارسون بخالص التهاني وأصدق مشاعر الاحترام بمناسبة هذا الاستحقاق الأدبي الرفيع.
