Sick City By: Syed Rono

English Translation by: Ashraf Mirza
The city has leaned a bit by the age
Sigh of tired road suffocates south breeze
Absent here is the heart beat…
The dim rays of Sodium light
Curbs beauty and glamor every night.
This city is barren- because you did not step in
Like African jungle the scorching sun has burnt
Respiration of lined up trees don’t quench the heart.
We talked under a silvery moonlit shower
Deeping the face in the chest of flowing river
Whispering in the ears of flying birds.
We had talked… in the Facebook inbox.
In the balcony of this city, you must reappear.
You failed to keep your words
Blind craze nurtured in heart also failed
For you did not come- faces are turned
By the joyous afternoon flying in town
Hundreds and thousands of sprouts
that sprung up in the fertile soil
The sweet smiles of the buildings.
In the day-nap, I knit dreams
Still, my heart reinforce with hopes-
Wrapped in the sheet of classic faith
And, putting a red dot on the forehead,
Floating on the turbulent waves of
the decaying heart…
You must come back.
