In the morning light, a platinum wristwatch, no longer usable, was thrown into a blue lake. The watch danced slowly on the surface of the water before sinking to the bottom. As it settled, a light, muddy smoke rose from it.

People were coughing, and there were faint whispers of mutual resentment. The vices of those who praise the winners and exploit the losers are endless.

With hearts harboring deep hatred for others, they emerged with impassive faces. In their haste to arrive on time, they had no choice but to sip cold soup with a rusty iron spoon. From the distant window, the faint cry of a raging horse echoed.

Some oyster shells remained stuck in the soup, and the dish, unwashed, lay on the white tablecloth. The battle itself was nearing its end—a futile battle. With neither victory nor defeat, the earth seemed to suffocate, and the shimmering blue sky seemed to close in on itself.

Did we live our lives wrong? Or was it inevitable? Silence fell upon everyone, and they all turned to ash. Only the gears of the wristwatch, now buried deep in the muddy lake, continued to turn.

صمت الزمن

في ضوء الصباح، أُلقيت ساعة يد من البلاتين، لم تعد صالحة للاستخدام، في بحيرة زرقاء. رقصت الساعة ببطء على سطح الماء قبل أن تغوص إلى القاع. وبينما كانت تستقر، انبعث منها دخان طيني خفيف.

كان الناس يسعلون، وهمسات خافتة تنمّ عن ضغينة متبادلة. إنّ رذائل أولئك الذين يمدحون الفائزين ويستغلون الخاسرين لا تنقطع.

بقلوبٍ تخفي كراهيةً سوداء تجاه الآخرين، خرجوا بوجوهٍ جامدة. وفي عجلةٍ من أمرهم للوصول في الوقت المحدد، لم يكن أمامهم خيارٌ سوى احتساء حساءٍ باردٍ بملعقةٍ حديديةٍ صدئة. ومن النافذة البعيدة، تردد صدى صرخةٍ خافتةٍ لحصانٍ هائج.

بقيت بعض أصداف المحار عالقة في الحساء، وبقي الطبق، دون غسل، على مفرش المائدة الأبيض. كانت المعركة نفسها تقترب من نهايتها – معركة عبثية. فبدون نصر أو هزيمة، بدت الأرض وكأنها تختنق، وانطوت السماء الزرقاء المتلألئة على نفسها.

هل عشنا حياتنا بشكل خاطئ؟ أم كان ذلك حتمياً؟ ساد الصمت الجميع وتحولوا إلى رماد. فقط تروس ساعة اليد، المدفونة الآن في أعماق البحيرة الموحلة، استمرت في الدوران.
